NONPROFIT: Annual United Way campaign exceeds goal

COLUMBIA CITY — Coming up with $30,000 additional dollars seemed like a “lofty goal,” but Whitley County’s Executive Director Cindy Baker rose to the challenge.Live United, the United Way’s 2012 campaign, is complete and the nonprofit stands with a total amount of $197,258 raised — more than $7,000 over the anticipated goal of $190,000 and more than $37,000 over what was raised in 2011.“We worked hard, but really it was the community that did it. They deserve the pat on the back,” said Baker. “I think this proves that people in Whitley County are invested in this community.”Now the United Way will begin making decisions on how to best apply the funds. With a focus on three key areas — education, income and community chest — the United Way will open up the application process to any nonprofit in the county that feels as if its project falls within one of these three areas. To read the rest of this story, see the March 15 issue of The Post and Mail.
