A Day in the Life: Heather Mikesell and Blue Collar Cuts

Staff Writer

We all know how important it is to groom ourselves. We go to the hair salons to have our hair cut and dyed. Sometimes we go to nail salons to get a new manicure or pedicure. Some of us enjoy getting facials and other dermatology treatments. While we as people groom ourselves regularly, dogs need the same treatment as well. Blue Collar Cuts Owner Heather Mikesell, along with dog groomer Megan Slusher and dog bather Candace Mikesell, her older sister, work together to beautify their clients’ dogs.

“I knew I wanted to work with animals, dogs specifically. After a short time in college, I realized being a veterinarian technician wasn’t for me. I started out as a bather in April of 2011 when I was 19-years-old. After I completed the minimum number of ‘bath dogs’ in August I was sent to an accredited academy for a month,” Mikesell said.
