ANNUAL GARDEN WALK: Daniel home to be featured

COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County Master Gardeners will hold its annual garden walk Saturday, June 28 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.Tickets are $7 and are available from the following:Until June 27, Whitley County Extension Office, or a Master Gardener.On June 28, at participating gardens, and at Zion Lutheran Church, Columbia City.Marc and Janice Daniel’s home, located at 366 N. CR 150 E., Columbia City, is one of seven homes on the tour.Their home is described as a “beautiful home sitting at the top of a hill surrounded by a profusion of flowers.” Some of the flowers featured in their garden include daisies, coreopsis, asiatic and day lilies, catmint, lavender, bear’s britches, and babies’ breath. Several colorful pots of annuals around the deck and entry areas will entice visitors to take a closer look. Trees, shrubs and grasses put the finishing touches on the scenery. The Daniels purchased their undeveloped property 14 years ago. After building a two-story home, the family began planning their landscaping.A retaining wall at the side of the house borders the graveyard area that contains originally unwanted, but interesting shrubs and trees. The long terraced hillside displays many lilies and other perennials. Behind the house visitors will find the family’s vegetable garden, some grasses, and more shrubs and perennials.The driveway features dawn redwood trees surrounded by flowers. Marc takes care of the lawn with the help of his sons Tucker, Tanner, and Taylor. Janice does the planting of flowers, trees and shrubs.
