SECTIONAL CROWN: Whitko to play

LAGRANGE — Whitko used two solid pitching efforts combined with just enough offense to defeat West Noble 6-3 to advance to this evening’s IHSAA Sectional 21 softball championship game.

After giving up a lead-off single, Whitko pitcher Hannah Yohe set the Chargers down in order.

CONFERENCE HONORS: Girls All-NHC lists announced

COLUMBIA CITY — Northeast Hoosier Conference honors in tennis and softball have been announced, and Columbia City athletes earned spots on both lists.

In tennis, the No. 1 doubles team of Macie Hinen and Aubrey Wright earned first team All-NHC honors. The senior duo will be competing this evening at the Culver Academies tennis regional.

TRACKSTERS: Whitley County competes at regional

WHITLEY COUNTY — All three Whitley County girls track teams competed in IHSAA regional competition Tuesday evening.

At the Warsaw regional, Whitko’s Kaitlyn Reed was the county’s only automatic qualifier for the June 6 state finals meet. The Whitko sophomore cleared the state qualifying height of 5 feet, 4 inches in the high jump while placing fourth. Reed also competed in the 100-meter dash, but did not qualify for the finals in that event.

COMMING TO A CLOSE: Col. City softball falls to Indians

OSSIAN — Columbia City’s softball team lost in the first round of sectional play Monday against the Mississinewa Indians, 8-2.

Gusting winds blew dirt across the infield and even pop-flies into foul territory at Norwell High School while the Lady Eagles tried to keep their regional hopes alive.
