COMEBACK WIN AT ANGOLA: Col. City volleyball opens with 2-0 record

ANGOLA — Columbia City’s volleyball team held on for a five-game win Wednesday night at Angola. After falling in the first two games, 25-21 and 25-22, the Lady Eagles rallied to come back and win 25-22, 25-18 and 15-10.

WHITLEY COUNTY — Area football teams are taking a final day of preparation before the season opens tomorrow night. Scrimmages last week were a gauge of the teams’ progress in the offseason, and the squads open with 7 p.m. games Friday. TEAM NAZARENE ALPHA: Church League softball champs

The Columbia City Church of the Nazarene Alpha team won the Church League Softball championship recently. The squad finished the season with a 14-2 record. Pictured, front row, from left: Kyle Shew, Bo Sallee, Marissa Sallee, Carrie Dunn and Andrew Davison. Second row: Clayton Clifford, Travis Janssen, Maddy Minnick and Chuck Minnick. Back row: Josh Smith, Hunter Coyle, John Dunn, Todd Coyle and Jason Shoemaker. League games were played at First Church of God from May thru August.

3-2 VICTORY: Lady Eagles open with win
