JAILED: Pistorius sentenced to 5 years in prison

PRETORIA, South Africa (AP) — Oscar Pistorius was sentenced Tuesday to five years in prison for killing Reeva Steenkamp by a South African judge who cited the “gross negligence” the runner showed when he shot his girlfriend multiple times through a toilet cubicle door in his home.
However, legal experts said the section of law Judge Thokozile Masipa quoted when she announced the double-amputee Olympic athlete’s sentence provides for a maximum of five years in prison and Pistorius could be released after 10 months in jail to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

CROSS COUNTRY REGIONAL: Lady Eagles stay hot on cold day

LIGONIER — Temperatures in the low 40s, wind gusts to 30 miles per hour and a spitting mist — all of these greeted the teams and individuals at the West Noble IHSAA Cross Country Regional on a cold, gray Saturday morning. The weather was cold, but the Columbia City Lady Eagle team was hot enough to advance to next Saturday’s New Haven Semi-State by virtue of a fourth-place team finish.

FEATHERS FLY: Busco Eagles take down Fairfield 35-20

CHURUBUSCO — It was a battle among the aerial predators Friday night as the Churubusco Eagles faced off against the Fairfield Falcons for the right to hold the coveted Birds of Prey Trophy.
Busco went into to Friday night’s game having lost six times to Fairfield in the last eight years, but the Eagles decided to put a feather — a falcon feather in their caps and defeat Fairfield 35-20.
