MAD ANTS: Wright recognized

Columbia City High School Lady Eagle Aubrey Wright, a senior, was recognized at last Saturday’s Fort Wayne Mad Ants game as “Mad Ants / McDonald’s Girls Player of the Month” for November. Pictured, from left, are Garrett Martz, vice president of sales and marketing for the Mad Ants, Aubrey Wright and The Mad Ant. Her family, coaches, teammates and their parents attended the game Saturday. She is the daughter of Robin and Teresa Wright, of Columbia City. The CCHS Lady Eagles’ record is 8-2.

WHITKO BASKETBALL: Lady ’Cats lose to Chargers, 42-40

LIGONIER — Young teams have to go through some growing pains from time to time. The Whitko Lady Wildcats have five wins this season against five teams with losing records. This week presents two tough tests. The first test came Thursday night at West Noble. With all underclassmen on the floor to end the game, the Lady ‘Cats gained some valuable experience, but it came in a loss to the Lady Chargers 42-40.
Whitko struggled through the first three quarters of play, especially when sophomore Aly Reiff was out of the line-up.

BIG FOURTH QUARTER: Fuels ’Busco basketball win

CHURUBUSCO — The Churubusco boys’ basketball team used a 25-point fourth quarter surge to blow open a close game and seal a 69-54 win over the visiting East Noble Knights in a Tuesday night game played on the Eagles’ home floor.
Churubusco held a four-point 44-40 lead going into the fourth quarter, before putting up 25 points in the final quarter, outscoring the visitors by 11.

CCHS VICTORY: Eagles take down Knights

COLUMBIA CITY — When going into a match, where the outcome is already decided, the difficulty lies in keeping focus. The Columbia City Eagle wrestling squad went into Wednesday’s Alumni Night match with visiting Norwell with the outcome already determined. A depleted Norwell squad was giving up forfeits in seven of 14 weight classes. The Eagles picked up wins in six of the seven contested weight classes to overwhelm the Knights 72-6.
