Lakers defeat Eagles

CHURUBUSCO — Churubusco’s baseball team dropped an extra-inning NECC game Monday.

The Eagles fell to Lakeland, 6-5, in 10 innings.

Churubusco took a 5-0 lead after three innings. The Lakers slowly crawled back, chipping in a run in the fourth and four more in the top of the fifth.

Lakeland finally broke the scoreless struggle that went into extra innings by notching one run in the top of the 10th.

Columbia City’s softball team suffered a season-ending loss to Carroll in the first round of sectionals Monday.

After taking a 1-0 lead, the Lady Eagles fell 11-1 to the Lady Chargers. Pictured above is Allie Vodde.

Eagles 10-runned by Angola, 13-3

ANGOLA — Whatever momentum Columbia City’s baseball team had built up heading towards sectionals was lost Monday night at Angola.

The Eagles were 10-runned by the Hornets by a final of 13-3 after five innings.

Columbia City was only down 5-3 in the middle of the fifth frame.

However, what started as a feasible deficit to overcome turned into an insurmountable one that ultimately ended the game without the Eagles getting another turn to bat. Angola scored eight runs in the bottom of the fifth to win the matchup, 13-3.

Whitko golfers beat Knights

ANDREWS — Whitko’s boys golf team picked up a win on the way to sectionals later this week.

The Wildcats beat Southwood Monday, 184-192 at Etna Acres Golf Club.

Whitko was paced by Danny Zawlocki, who shot 44, tying him with two Southwood golfers for the top score.
