Eagle baseball edges out Norwell on senior night

COLUMBIA CITY — Fans attending Columbia City baseball’s Senior Night contest against Northeast Hoosier Conference foe Norwell got their money’s worth as far as offense was concerned.

The visiting Knights got almost all their runs in a single outburst, but the Eagles fielded a more consistent offense scoring in five-of-seven innings, including two runs in the bottom of the seventh frame to cap an 11-10 come-from-behind win Tuesday night in Columbia City.

The Knights started the game with the lead-off batter drawing a walk and a double drove in a Norwell run.

Sectional Champions: Col. City wins title

BLUFFTON — With track, in some cases winning isn’t based on how well a team performs, but how the other teams place to shuffle around competitors scores.

Columbia City’s girls track team and Head Coach Bob Fahl, are thanking the other team’s in Tuesday night’s sectional meet at Bluffton.
“I’ve always said, things have got to go right for your team, and the other teams have to help you,” Fahl said. “Tonight, the other teams helped us.”

Conference champs: Columbia City softball wins Northeast Hoosier conference outright

OSSIAN — Columbia City’s softball team’s 6-0 win over Norwell Monday night wasn’t just another win.

It was the Lady Eagle’s seventh win in the Northeast Hoosier Conference, taking the conference title with an undefeated (7-0) NHC record.

“I’m very proud of our girls for winning conference,” Head Coach Steve Cox said.

Not only was the feat special for the team, but it was especially important for Columbia City pitcher Cassie Vodde, who didn’t give up any earned runs in any conference games this season.

“It was another great game by Cassie Vodde,” Cox said.

Lady Eagle tennis downs Central Noble

COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s tennis team hosted and defeated Central Noble Monday in the last match, and final home play of the season.

The Lady Eagles won by a 4-1 score.

“The win tonight was a great way to finish the regular season,” Columbia City Head Coach Katie Myers said. “It was also a nice farewell for our two seniors, as they both picked up wins.”

Blake Farber and Lauren Taylor are the team’s seniors this season.
Farber, along with No. 2 doubles partner Macie Hinen, won 6-1, 6-2.
