COLUMBIA CTIY — Many members of the community are revolted at a recent animal neglect discovery in Whitley County.
Two dogs, Albos and Ruby, were taken into custody last week from the residence of Douglas Shearer at 2690 N. CR 450 E.
The animals were in poor condition, and according to veterinarians, one dog, Albos, was at least 25 pounds underweight.
Line Street Veterinary’s Carol Hainje plans to foster Albos and the Whitley County Humane Shelter is caring for Ruby.
According to the Whitley County Prosecutor’s Office, on Friday Chief Deputy Prosecutor D.J. Sigler filed for an order to appear.
Shearer is slated to be in court March 25 at 1:30 p.m.
The Post & Mail’s Facebook page accumulated approximately 35 comments about the case, with many members of the community appalled.
“So sad and disgusting that people would let an animal starve,” Jan Morsches said.
