COLUMBIA CITY — “Each rib showed on the dog, as well as the entire contour of the spine. The hip bones also protruded out.”
In a case report, Whitley County Sheriff’s K9 handler, Jason Spencer, described the condition of two dogs he found at a rural Columbia City home Wednesday night.
The two animals, Albos and Ruby, were removed from the Doug Shearer residence at 2690 N. CR 450 E. after police found the canines severely malnutritioned.
Line Street Veterinary Hospital’s Veterinarian Carol Hainje said while both dogs are in poor condition, Albos, a male lab mix, is at least 25 pounds underweight.
According to the case report, Shearer didn’t answer the door at his home when police attempted to make contact with him.
