SOUTH WHITLEY — South Whitley has a newly operational wastewater treatment plant.
Town council members were informed last week that as of Jan. 24, the project had reached a substantial completion status and is operational.
There are still some minor items to finish before the project is completed. Training on new equipment is underway and smaller items are being installed.
But the council was concerned with an entirely different pipe problem. A storm sewer pipe at 306 S. Main St. had collapsed, but the pipe’s failure seemed to originate with its installation.
In a previous council meeting the problem was brought to the council by a South Whitley resident who helps to take care of the property.
Total cost for repairs are still being totaled, but the council was presented with an invoice for $1,523.45. Based on a review of the pipe, it appears the contractor did not follow correct procedures for installation. However, the project is outside of the warranty date.
