HUNTINGTON — Former Columbia City High School basketball player Doug Sheckler was honored by Huntington University recently.
Sheckler was inducted into the 2013 class of H.U.’s Hall of Fame, along with three others.
Sheckler was a senior on the 2004 Columbia City team that advanced to the state finals — the furthest any Eagle team has made it in the tournament.
Sheckler began playing for the Foresters in 2004, and according to a press release by H.U., his impact on the program was immediate.
As a freshman, he earned 3rd-Team All-Conference accolades, averaging 12 points and 3.9 rebounds per game, and helping the Foresters to a conference championship and berth to the national tournament in the NAIA.
He repeated as 3rd-Team All-Conference his sophomore year, averaging 13 points per game, leading the team in blocks, and finding himself back at the National Tourney with bragging rights of reaching the championship game as a sophomore.
