COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s Board of Works approved the final step of an agreement between the city and Whitley County Consolidated Schools for a School Resource Officer (SRO) at Tuesday night’s meeting.
The board approved a memo of understanding that clarifies the responsibilities of each party if an SRO is hired by WCCS.
The memo of understanding (MOU) was approved by the WCCS Board of School Trustees at its Aug. 19 meeting.
With the MOU approved by both parties, WCCS can now apply for a grant that would help fund the officer.
WCCS is requesting a $100,000 school safety grant which would help pay for the salary of an SRO and assist the district in upgrading safety equipment within the schools.
