COLUMBIA CITY — By a close decision, Whitley County Consolidated Schools Board of Trustees named its newest member at Monday night’s meeting.
Winning the 4-3 vote was Dan Curless, but Board President Don Armstrong encouraged the other candidate, Leslee Derbeck, to continue pursuing her involvement in the WCCS district.
“We certainly hope you will run for one of these positions again,” Armstrong said. “It was a tough choice.”
Armstrong, along with fellow board members Tim Bloom, Stan Meyer and Bill Tucker voted for Curless, while Brooks Langeloh, Deb Hiss and James Renbarger opted for Derbeck.
Two years into his retirement, Curless said he’s excited to give back to the community.
“I don’t have any agendas or anything like that,” Curless said. “I live here, grew up here, and thought it was time to give back to the district that did so much for me.”
