COLUMBIA CITY — “In summary, you are a despicable human being, and there is nothing good to say about you.”
Following these words, Whitley County Circuit Court Judge James Heuer sentenced Dean Pressler Monday to 60 years in the Indiana Department of Corrections for child molesting, sexual misconduct with a minor and child seduction.
He was given a three-year sentence for child seduction, which will be served concurrently with a 15-year sentence for sexual misconduct with a minor. That sentence though will be served consecutively with the child molesting charge, for which 45 years were given by Judge Heuer.
At the sentencing hearing, testimony was given by the victim in the case, who just turned 18 years of age. She said Pressler’s crimes against her were damaging and she hoped he received as weighty of a sentence as possible.
“It was very traumatizing, actually,” she said. “I think he should get the full amount (of sentence) so he could never do this to a child. He should not have the chance to do this to another person.”
When the victim was approximately 12 years old, she and her mother came to live with Pressler. Pressler had been dating the mother, and when utilities were shut off at the victim’s home, both moved in with Pressler.
Not long after that, approximately two weeks according to the victim, her mother left her alone in Pressler’s custody. After being left in the care of Pressler, he began sexually assaulting her.
The victim lived with Pressler for approximately five years and had two children with him during that time. One daughter is just more than three years of age, and the other is approximately one year old.
When questioned by Whitley County Prosecutor Matt Rentschler, the victim said she is trying to get past this incident in her life.
