COLUMBIA CITY (May 1, 2013) — A traffic stop for a moving violation by an Indiana State Trooper led to the discovery of heroin, marijuana and other controlled substances which resulted in the arrest of two men from Ohio and one from Illinois yesterday afternoon.
According to Trooper Jacob Quick, at approximately 2:40 p.m. today he initiated a traffic stop on U.S. 30, eastbound at County Road 100 S, just outside of Columbia City. During his encounter with the driver, 33 year old Michael D. Yoha from Mansfield, Ohio, Quick’s suspicions were heightened by the behavior of the driver and his two male passengers, which included being provided false information including that relating to their true identities.
Further investigation by Quick and Trooper Matt Teusch led to the discovery of more than 50 grams of heroin, an unknown quantity of marijuana and numerous narcotic pills. One of the passengers also had federal arrest warrants issued for him for trafficking heroin. All three men were taken into custody without incident and transported to the Whitley County Jail.
The Whitley County Sheriff Department assisted the troopers at the location of the traffic stop.
