ZOMBIE RUN: Zombie run makes fundraising a scream

October 10, 2012

FORT WAYNE — A 5K obstacle course is taking shape on the campus of IPFW Nov. 10.
But this fundraising event is not the normal 5K run. Zombies will be invading the obstacle course to motivate runners into a frenzy.
Just Cause International, a Columbia City missions group, is hosting the run to benefit its efforts in Haiti.
Organizers said, “You can sign up to be a human runner or the zombie undead. The humans will have flags representing health and the zombie’s goal is to try to capture those health flags. We will have make-up artists there to make the zombies look like the real undead. The zombie with the most flags at the end wins a prize.
“The first runners to cross the finish line without losing all their flags wins as well as the survivor of the zombie apocalypse. We will also host a zombie bash with local artists after the event to celebrate our winners.”
The cost of the run is $30 whether human or zombie.
There is a $5 discount for all students who sign up to be human runners before the day of the race.
Human runners need to arrive between noon and 1:30 p.m. on the day of the race to pick up a registration packet.
Zombie runners need to arrive at 11 a.m. to get make-up apllied. Costumes will not be provided.
The race starts at 2 p.m. For those choosing to attend the concert afterwards, the cost is $5.
All proceeds from the event go to support Just Cause International’s program centered on feeding the hungry and changing lives of individuals living in one of the poorest countries in the western hemisphere, Haiti.
The event is also sponsored by Chi Alpha, a Christian community from IPFW.
Just Cause International workers said, “Run for your life and run for theirs.”
