WORKING TO WELCOME: Local business and organization leaders met to learn more about Puerto Rico

Staff Writer

COLUMBIA CITY— Leaders throughout Whitley County met at the Parkview Whitley Hospital Tuesday
morning.
The topic was to get further insight
into Puerto Rico, and get ideas on what to do to welcome approximately 45 families to the county.
Last month, Columbia City officials announced that these families would
be moving to the area from Guayanabo,
Puerto Rico, transferring their
full-time jobs to the Zimmer Biomet
company in Warsaw.
In September of last year, Hurricane Maria devastated the island, destroying
many homes and leaving many in
the dark. Today the island continues to make progress to repair the damage
done, but this process could still take several years.
