COLUMBIA CITY – A wintry mix of freezing rain started coating vehicles, sidewalks and roadways shortly after 9 a.m. Tuesday. The National Weather Service in North Webster issued this special weather statement about 8 a.m.:WINTER MIX RAPIDLY MOVING NORTH THIS MORNING...AN AREA OF SLEET WITH FREEZING RAIN WILL MOVE RAPIDLY NORTH TONEAR THE ROUTE 30 CORRIDOR BY AROUND 9 AM. WITH TEMPERATURESHOVERING NEAR TO JUST BELOW FREEZING...RAPID ICE ACCUMULATIONON UNTREATED ROADS WITH AN ICY MIX OF SLEET AND FREEZING RAIN.DRIVING CONDITIONS ON ANY UNTREATED SURFACES MAY RAPIDLYDETERIORATE. MOTORISTS ARE URGED TO USE CAUTION THIS MORNINGACROSS NORTHERN INDIANA AND NORTHWEST OHIO.
