WINTER STORM UPDATE: Warning in effect, power outages possible

WHITLEY COUNTY (March 12, 2014) -- A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 p.m. this afternoon. The county is under a Watch Level Advisory and officials say roads are slick and hazardous. All three Whitley County school districts are closed today.

Snow will continue and will be heavy at times, with snow tapering off by late this afternoon. Snow accumulation 4 to 6 inches with considerable blowing and drifting snow.

Heavy snowfall rates are expected to be in excess of an inch per hour and winds could reach 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 35 to 40 mph. Visibility could be near zero in the heaviest snow.

This will result in hazardous travel conditions. High winds may cause tree branches to be blown down resulting in power outages.
