Wildcats fall to Squires

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s boys soccer team lost a narrow contest to visiting Manchester Wednesday.

The Wildcats dropped a 1-0 contest to the Squires in a match that Coach Jason Ehrman said showed how far his team has come.

“They’re a great team,” he said. “Just to compete with them, from where we started, is great.”

The one goal came with just under 15 minutes left to play in a somewhat fluky situation. Manchester scored on a throw-in when Whitko’s goalkeeper, Jacob Helton, had the ball slip out of his hands for the score.

“Every now and then one like that slips in,” Ehrman said. “That’s why you want one of yoru own so that doesn’t happen, so that one slip doesn’t beat you.”

Ehrman credited the consistently excellent play by Helton.
