WHITLEY ON THE MOVE: Ideas sprout within revitalization group

February 26, 2013

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitley on the Move (WOTM) is a grassroots movement to revitalize South Whitley.

Several committees have formed to tackle different aspects of the town from recreation opportunities to beautification of Main Street.

One particular committee is focused on the economic development of the town.

“This is the hardest area to work on, I think,” said Julia Robinson, WOTM’s leader. “At the same time, I think this is an area with great potential.”

At Monday’s meeting, the group of residents forming the Economic Development Committee discussed specific areas of focus to help draw new business to downtown South Whitley.

Taking from other cities that have successfully revitalized its downtown, Robinson and Lori Shipman, who is with Whitley County’s Economic Development Corporation, explained a unique idea to fill empty store fronts along Main Street.
