October 25, 2013

SOUTH WHITLEY — After a strong year, Whitko’s football season came to a close Friday night against Bellmont.

The Wildcats had the advantage of hosting the opening round of sectional action, but a competitive Bellmont team swooped in to steal the win and keep its season alive with a final score of 35-13.

Bellmont took a quick 28-0 advantage in the first half.

The Braves opened up the game with a touchdown within the first five minutes from kickoff, on their first possession.

They scored again three minutes later to make the score 14-0 at the end of the first stanza, but on the first play of the second quarter, Bellmont scored yet again to take a 21-0 lead.

The Wildcats scored to open the second half, cutting Bellmont’s lead to 22, but the Braves answered with another TD, making the score 35-6.
Whitko scored the final touchdown of the season with 4:32 left in the game, making the final score 35-13.

Despite the loss, Whitko’s season ended on a high note, earning a share of the Three Rivers Conference title with Rochester last week.

The Wildcats end their season 6-4.

Bellmont, now 5-5, is advancing to play Fort Wayne Concordia in the second round next week. Concordia defeated Lakeland 28-14.
