WHITKO PEP BAND: Embraces alumni

November 27, 2012

SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko High School’s Pep Band sounded louder than usual at Saturday night’s home basketball game.

The additional sound came from the alumni band members who doubled the band’s numbers for alumni night.

Popular songs by Lady Gaga, Maroon Five and The Black Eyed Peas were new to the repertoire, and many alumni remarked at the improvements to the band program since their time at WHS.

Joey Shepherd is a WHS alumnus and in his first year as the band director at Whitko.

“Many of the songs in the folders were chosen by the students,” said Shepherd. “I even personally arranged many of the songs so that the students could play songs they like, not just songs I like.”
