SOUTH WHITLEY — Whitko’s baseball team finally opened its season, after difficult weather conditions, Saturday and split a doubleheader with Marion.

The Wildcats dropped game one by a margin of 9-5, but came back to capture game two by a 10-9 score.

A home run proved to be the winning blast in game two. Tanner Gaff hit a solo shot to break a 9-9 tie and give the Wildcats the eventual win.

“Tanner Gaff made a great hitting adjustment on his solo home run in the bottom of the sixth inning that proved to be the game winner,” Whitko Head Coach Erik Hisner said.

A big fifth inning was the key to victory for the Wildcats in game two. Whitko scored seven runs in the fifth to take a 9-6 lead.
