Whitko cross country senior wins age division in Indianapolis marathon; qualifies for Boston

Cozad crosses the finish line after a 26.2 mile trek with a 2:42:48 time.

INDIANAPOLIS — Twenty-six point two miles.
From downtown Columbia City to downtown Fort Wayne is less than a marathon; 21.7 miles.
The distance from Churubusco to South Whitley on Ind. 205 is 21.1 miles.
Whitko senior cross country runner, Dylan Cozad, ran 26.2 miles in less than three hours.
Cozad participated in the Indianapolis Monumental Marathon Nov. 5, winning the 19 and under age division as a 17-year-old.
The runner finished with a 2:42:48 time which calculates to a 6:12 per mile pace.
Overall, Cozad was 26th out of 2611 runners.
Cozad was a slim 12 seconds behind the winner of the women’s competition and six minutes ahead of the nearest competitor in his division.
The closest 17-year-old competitor was 21 minutes behind Cozad.
The runner qualified for the Boston Marathon, which has a 3:05:00 cut-off in the 18-35 age division.
Whitko Cross Country Coach Mike McKeighen finished 34th out of 4595 runners in the half-marathon with a 1:21:22.7 time.
McKeighen was eighth in his age division and like Cozad, ran a 6:12 mile average.
