Whitko baseball downs Col. City
COLUMBIA CITY — Despite an impressive 10-run inning by Columbia City, Whitko held on for a 16-13 win over the Eagles on their own field Friday night in Columbia City.Whitko jumped out to a 13-3 lead at the top of the fourth inning. Fearing the possibility of being beat by the 10-run-rule, Columbia City retaliated with a 10-run fourth frame to tie the score at 13.But that was the end, as the Eagles didn’t score another run for the final three innings, while Whitko tacked on three more in the high-scoring game.Columbia City’s Landon Rehrer led in hitting, going 3-for-5 with two runs and four RBIs. Connor Reed went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI.The Wildcats had several players with multiple hits. Zach Snep went 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Austin Mort was 3-for-5, also with two runs and two RBIs.Brandon Carpenter had three RBIs, two runs and went 2-for-3 from the plate. Ryan Weigold was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs, a run and a stolen base. Wes Gensch also had a stolen base, an RBI and two runs on 2-of-4 hitting.The Wildcats are now 17-5 and take the weekend off before playing again at Northfield for a 5 p.m. game.Columbia City falls to a losing record, 9-10.
