WCSD warns of scam

March 8, 2014

COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County’s Sheriff’s Department is warning residents of another phone scam that has been reported locally.

WCSD Chief Deputy Marc Gatton said a concerned citizen reported the scam, which was like many others in that the caller requested money.

However, this time, the caller already knew much of the victim’s personal information.

Sheriff’s deputies and WCSD Detective Jason Spencer obtained the suspect’s phone number, (917)775-8486, which is based out of New York, and began to investigate.
