WASTEWATER: Solutions manifest for town’s plant problems

October 10, 2013

SOUTH WHITLEY — A plan of action is closer to implementation for the town of South Whitley and its wastewater treatment plant.

After completion of the new plant, heavy storms hit the town in August, causing serious flooding and back ups at the facility.

Town leaders questioned engineers on the system failures and asked for solutions to circumvent future problems.

At Tuesday night’s town council meeting, Councilman Steve Smith gave an update on the progress.

“We have some solutions after meeting with the engineers today,” Smith said. “They’re prepared to absorb most of the cost to fix the problem. There’s still some things the town will have to cover, but nothing like we originally thought.”
