COLUMBIA CITY — With the recent conviction of former Whitley County Sheriff’s Detective Chuck Vogely for operating while intoxicated, some changes have been made in the department.

Second-shift Sergeant Jason Spencer is taking over Vogely’s position as detective.

On April 13, Vogely was arrested for drunk driving, and the sheriff’s department has made a decision on the future of his career.

Vogely pleaded guilty to OWI April 15, and WCSD Chief Deputy Marc Gatton said after the court proceedings, disciplinary actions moved forward by the department.

Vogely was suspended without pay for 60 days, and was demoted from his detective position.

“Once he returns to work, he will work the road as a deputy,” Gatton said.

Spencer, who has played many roles within the department, is looking forward to his new duties.
