COLUMBIA CITY ‚ÄĒ As part of new legislation, utility companies have to notify their customers of the right to a hearing before being disconnected.
The City of Columbia City worked toward compliance with that legislation at last week’s meeting, as City Attorney Marcia McNagny presented the Board of Works with the verbiage that will now be included in disconnect notices.
‚ÄúPeople have always had the opportunity for a hearing,‚ÄĚ McNagny said.
‚ÄúThe court‚Äôs ruling was that we now have to notify them ‚ÄĒ that‚Äôs why we‚Äôre doing this. They just have to be notified of their right to a hearing.‚ÄĚ
Essentially, there have been no changes to the city’s policy for disconnect.
