Tracksters compete at state
MARION — Several local tracksters competed in Saturday’s Indiana State Indoor Track finals at Indiana Wesleyan.Leading the area’s athletes were Austin McClure and Connor Stouder.McClure, of Churubusco, took first in the shotput in the small school division. His teammate, Eric Kuznar, placed 16th in the same event.Stouder, of Whitko, was state runner up in the 55-meter dash.Churubusco’s Cory Miller came in eighth in the pole vault, and Whitko’s 1,600-meter relay team placed ninth.’Busco’s Connor Hogeston finished 10th in the 3,200-meter run.On the girls side, Columbia City’s tracksters had a strong performance.“All five girls that participated Saturday had a great day,” Columbia City head coach Bob Fahl said. Kalisha Goree jumped her personal record in the long jump at 18-feet, 2.25 inches, to place fourth in the event.She also came in ninth, one place from a medal, in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.95, .12 seconds better than her time last week.The distance medley relay team of Samina Qureshi, Carlee Hearld, Hannah Wappes and Samantha Roush was seeded 21 with a time of 13:29, but ended the day Saturday with a 14th-place finish in 13:04, 25 seconds faster than last week.“What a major, major, major accomplishment by this group of young ladies,” Fahl said. “All the girls ran so well and represented the school very well.”Churubusco’s Katie Monk continued to do well for the Eagles in shotput, placing ninth.Her teammate, Danielle Pippenger, came in 12th in the long jump.Whitko’s 3,200-meter relay team came in 11th place.
