MARION â Several local tracksters competed in Saturdayâs Indiana State Indoor Track finals at Indiana Wesleyan.
Leading the areaâs athletes were Austin McClure and Connor Stouder.
McClure, of Churubusco, took first in the shotput in the small school division. His teammate, Eric Kuznar, placed 16th in the same event.
Stouder, of Whitko, was state runner up in the 55-meter dash.
Churubuscoâs Cory Miller came in eighth in the pole vault, and Whitkoâs 1,600-meter relay team placed ninth.
âBuscoâs Connor Hogeston finished 10th in the 3,200-meter run.
On the girls side, Columbia Cityâs tracksters had a strong performance.
âAll five girls that participated Saturday had a great day,â Columbia City head coach Bob Fahl said.
Kalisha Goree jumped her personal record in the long jump at 18-feet, 2.25 inches, to place fourth in the event.
She also came in ninth, one place from a medal, in the 55-meter hurdles with a time of 8.95, .12 seconds better than her time last week.
The distance medley relay team of Samina Qureshi, Carlee Hearld, Hannah Wappes and Samantha Roush was seeded 21 with a time of 13:29, but ended the day Saturday with a 14th-place finish in 13:04, 25 seconds faster than last week.
âWhat a major, major, major accomplishment by this group of young ladies,â Fahl said. âAll the girls ran so well and represented the school very well.â
Churubuscoâs Katie Monk continued to do well for the Eagles in shotput, placing ninth.
Her teammate, Danielle Pippenger, came in 12th in the long jump.
Whitkoâs 3,200-meter relay team came in 11th place.View more articles in:
