September 23, 2013

WHITLEY COUNTY — Officials believe accidental drowning was the cause of death for a toddler in Whitley County Saturday.

Around 1:40 p.m., first responders were called to 8009 W. CR 300 S., after family members found the two-year-old boy submerged and partially visible in a small pond.

Indiana Conservation Officers say the boy was outside with his famly when they realized he was missing. The family estimates they found him less than 10 minutes after they noticed he was out of sight.

When emergency crews arrived, they found family members performing CPR on the boy.

The child was taken by ambulance to Parkview Whitley Hosipital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:45 p.m.
