Thomas Joseph Martz, 69, formerly of Columbia City, passed away in Columbia, Mo. Sunday, Nov. 25, 2012, where he had resided for the past 50 years.
He was born in Columbia City Feb. 15, 1943, the youngest son of Joseph and Dora Belle (Barnes) Martz.
He grew up on the David Whiteleather Holstein dairy farm in Thorncreek Township, and graduated from Columbia City High School in 1962. While in high school he was a photographer for The Post & Mail.
Surviving relatives include his wife of 48 years, Freda (nee Kutschinske); son, Dr. Matthew (Elizabeth) Martz of St. Joseph, Mo.; daughter, Mary (Robert) Dewey of Fulton, Mo. and two granddaughters, Emily and Dora Martz.
He is also survived by two brothers, Dr. Fredric A. Martz of Columbia, Mo. and Hugo E. Martz, of Valparaiso.
He was employed by the University of Missouri Office of Printing Services, as an offset cameraman, for more than 40 years.
He was a member of the First Christian Church, Optimist Club and a 4-H leader. He was actively involved in community theater, ballooning and photography. He was an avid fan of the University of Missouri Tigers and Chicago Cubs.
Visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Memorial Funeral Home in Columbia.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. The family requests memorials be made to the American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
