Teghtmeyer Ace Hardware celebrating twice

April 5, 2014

COLUMBIA CITY — Ace Hardware Corporation, the largest retailer-owned hardware cooperative in the industry, is celebrating the organization’s 90th anniversary.

Locally, Columbia City’s Teghtmeyer Ace Hardware Store, located at 200 Diplomat Drive, is in its 54th year as a community business fixture. The store’s beginnings were in downtown Columbia City on the north side of the Courthouse Square. The late Jim Teghtmeyer, a former mayor, purchased the downtown business from his parents in 1966, which re-located to its present location as a state-of-the-art hardware store in 1988. The store is currently owned by Alicia Teghtmeyer Johnson and Nickey Teghtmeyer.

Teghtmeyer Ace Hardware is celebrating with Anniversary Sale pricing and specials throughout the month of April.

The hardware cooperative, Ace Hardware Corporation, was founded in Chicago in 1924 by five independent hardware storeowners. These entrepreneurs made the bold decision to unite their hardware businesses to increase their collective buying power in the industry.
