COLUMBIA CITY â To commemorate February as Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month, Columbia City Mayor Ryan Daniel read a proclamation to students at Columbia City High School Tuesday.
Whitley Countyâs Domestic Violence Task Force (WCDVTF) spearheaded the event and joined with other local organizations such as the Columbia City Police Department, Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD), Leadership Whitley County Youth and Columbia City Youth Council to impress on high school students the seriousness of dating violence.
To further instill the idea that violence is not acceptable in relationships, the WCDVTF is sponsoring a special dramatic presentation entitled, âThe Outrage.â
In this play, students from all three county high schools will come together to present various scenes depicting different dating scenarios.
ââThe Outrageâ will give teens a chance to see how to react to violence, and more importantly, will show friends how to help each other should they witness violence going on in someone elseâs relationship,â said Natalie Lewis, one of WCDVTFâs leaders.
âThe Outrageâ will be presented to CCHS students March 12, and Indian Springs Middle School eighth-grade students will have a chance to see the performance March 13.
