COLUMBIA CITY — Coesse Elementary School took time during the school day Friday to honor veterans.

The annual assembly was complete with a children’s choir and flowers given in appreciation to the veterans present.

Elementary students invited friends and family members who have served in the military. Each veteran was called by name and greeted by their student.

“We chose to take time to honor our veterans as a way to say ‘thank you,’” said CES Principal Laura McDermott. “It’s important for our students to not forget that so many have served our country. We are grateful for their dedication.”

Approximately 75 military personnel were recognized. A large audience filled the school’s gymnasium to offer their appreciation.

Veterans Day is officially observed Monday. Indian Springs Middle School will host a county-wide veterans ceremony Sunday at 2 p.m.
