Steve Shepherd Jr., 46, of rural Columbia City, died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2014.
He was born Nov. 15, 1967 in Floyd County, Ky., a son of Steve and Betty (Patrick) Shepherd. At the age of five, his family moved to Alger, Ohio.
On July 29, 1984, he was united in marriage to Christy L. Garver. They made their home in Ada, Ohio until 1996, when they moved to Dunkirk, Ohio. In 2008, they moved to Big Lake, north of Columbia City, moving into Columbia City for a short time before returning to the Big Lake area last December.
He was employed at Rudolph Foods from 1986 until 1996, Miller Construction from 1996 until 2000, and Peterson Construction from 2000 until 2007. He also worked at Farmerâ€™s Commission Company in Alger for a year.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Christy; three children, Adrienne (Adam) Macy, Steven Alexander Shepherd and Christopher Shepherd, all of Columbia City; two grandchildren, Braiden and Madison Macy; his parents, Steve and Betty Shepherd Sr. of Alger; three sisters, Wanda Rader of Belle Center, Ohio, Carol Cochrane of Ada, Ohio and Vickie Norman of McDuffy, Ohio; two brothers, Jimmy Shepherd and Timothy Shepherd, both of Alger, Ohio; and his mother-in-law, Helen Garver of Ada, Ohio.
A brother, Randy Shepherd, preceded him in death.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Smith & Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City, with visitation from noon to 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. The burial will be in the Keister Section of Scott Cemetery.
