Six county harriers advance to regional

FORT WAYNE — Columbia City paced Whitley County schools by advancing three cross country runners to regional action Saturday.

Gage Emrick, Samantha Roush and Brooke Werstler of Columbia City all qualified at the Fort Wayne Northrop sectional.

Whitko’s Brigit Nemitz qualifed for regionals at the Northrop meet. Churubusco’s Jacob Eyer and Blake Gross both advanced from the West Noble sectional.

As a team, the Columbia City girls finished sixth overall with 163 points.

The top five teams make it to regionals as a team, and the Lady Eagles missed the spot by 13 points. Whitko’s girls were 11th with 278.

Carroll won the boys and girls meets at Northrop, scoring 43 points in both wins.

For the boys, Columbia City came in 10th at 257 and Whitko was 11th with 311 points.

Emrick came in 31st for Columbia City. Eagles Cross Country Head Coach Bob Fahl said injuries affected the team’s placing.
