Shirley Ann Murphy, 78, of Columbia City passed away at 9:34 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, 2013, at Millerâ€™s Merry Manor Inc., Columbia City. Born March 23, 1935, in Muncie, she was the daughter of Clarence and Elizabeth (Doth) Tucker.
She has been a resident of Columbia City since 1964. She attended Muncie schools and received her GED from Columbia City High School. On March 11, 1955, she married James Murphy in Muncie. She worked at Whitley County Consolidated Schools as a cook, Alcoils, Columbia City and Magnavox. She was a member of Columbia City United Methodist Church where Shirley was on the prayer list committee and Women of the Moose.
Surviving relatives include her children, Mike (Amanda) Murphy, Jody (Greg) L. Grabner, Annette (Ben) Melvin, Kelly (Todd) J. Shoda and Chuck (Joella) Murphy, all of Columbia City; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Carey Tucker and a great-grandchild, Austin Purdy.
Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Dr., Columbia City. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home with burial at South Park Cemetery. Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Murphy to the Whitley County Humane Society, Whitley County Community Foundation or Parkview Whitley Home Health Care and Hospice.
