SCHUMAKER SLATED IN SENIOR PGA: Local man earns 16th Player of the Year title
The accolades continue for Whitley County pro golfer Bill Schumaker.
Schumaker, PGA pro and owner at Crooked Lake Golf Course, earned his 16th Indiana Player of the Year title recently, and qualified to play in the 2014 Senior PGA Championship at Harbor Shores Golf Course in Benton Harbor, Mich. Schumaker is the only pro from Indiana who earned a slot in the national competition, which runs from May 22 to 25 and includes the likes of Tom Watson and Fred Couples.
Schumaker was inducted into the Indiana Golf Hall of Fame in 1991, and in April claimed his 16th Indiana Section Player of the Year title, making him one of the most accomplished players in the history of Indiana Golf.
His 10 Senior Player of the Year titles are joined with six POYs in the regular division.
Schumaker finished in a tie for 23rd at the Southworth Senior PGA Professional National Championship, surpassing Dave Carich, of the Bridgewater Club in the 2013 Player of the Year point standings.
