COLUMBIA CITY â Officials with the Whitley County Council on Aging are warning residents of false solicitation for donations.
âWe have had a scam reported using our organization,â said Debra Darr, executive director for the Council for Aging.
According to Darr, phone calls are being placed to area residents requesting donations be made to the Council on Aging. The caller asks for the donation to be paid with a credit card, a practice Darr said is not possible with the organization.
âWhile we would gladly accept your donations, we do not accept credit cards,â said Darr.
âDonations can be brought to 710 Opportunity Dr. in Columbia City. We absolutely request that you do not give out your credit card number over the phone to anyone.â
Darr confirmed that the local authorities had been contacted regarding the solicitations.
Should someone receive phone call requesting donations, they should inform law enforcement or Darr directly.
