Samuel T. Kreider, 89, of rural South Whitley, died at 3:35 a.m. Monday, Oct. 4, 2010 at the Peabody Home, North Manchester where he had been a resident since April 7.
He was born March 30, 1921 in Cleveland Township, a son of Riley and Tressa (Roberts) Kreider. A lifelong resident of Cleveland Township, he graduated from South Whitley High School.
On May 31, 1941 he was united in marriage to Rosalie Wendel.
He was inducted into the United States Army Nov. 17, 1942, serving in France; Leumberg, Germany; and Austria. His honorable discharge was Dec. 1, 1945.
He was a retired farmer and a member of Whitley County Coon Hunters Club where he was a past president.
Surviving relatives include his wife, Rosalie; a son, Steven (Jody) Kreider of Fort Wayne; a daughter, Janet (Earl) McKinley of North Manchester; four grandchildren, Mark King, Beth Keim, Vallerie Kreider and Todd Kreider; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Gene Kreider of Columbia City.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, June Smith and Lavon Wyatt.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at South Whitley Cemetery. There will be no public visitation.
Arrangements are being completed at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.
