SADE SELECTED: ’Busco names head football coach

January 23, 2013

Paul Sade, left, was named Churubusco High School’s head football coach for the 2013 season. He succeeds Lee Etzler, middle, who resigned in December 2012. Standing with them is assistant coach John Schmidt.

CHURUBUSCO — “The main goal will be business as usual,” said Paul Sade.

That’s the philosophy the Churubusco High School football team seems to be utilizing as it replaces former head coach Lee Etzler, who resigned Dec. 21, 2012.

Monday, it was announced Sade, the Eagles’ previous offensive line coach, will assume head coaching duties for the 2013 football season.

Sade was formally approved for hire as head football coach at the regular meeting of the Smith-Green Community Schools Board of School Trustees.

“The thing we like about it is we’re keeping the entire staff intact,” said Churubusco Junior-Senior High School Principal Jim Folland. “They’ve been successful for eight-plus years. They’ve earned the right to stay together.”

According to Folland, hiring from within means the players don’t have to learn a new system.

Sade has coached the offensive line at ‘Busco for the past five seasons.
During his tenure on the coaching staff, the Eagles have gone 50-9, including a 9-5 playoff record, two sectional championship appearances, one sectional title and a regional title.

Careful consideration and discussion with the other ‘Busco coaches went into Sade’s decision to apply for the head coaching job.

Sade will rely on much of the same coaching staff that brought the Eagles so much success in the last decade.

As for where the football team goes from here, Sade said it’s time to start working again.
