Roush advances to semi-state

October 15, 2012

LIGONIER — Local cross country runners competed in the West Noble Regional Saturday in Ligonier.

While 15 Whitley County harriers entered the regional, only one is advancing to next week’s semi-state meet at New Haven — Columbia City junior Samantha Roush.

Roush placed third in the girls race with a season-best time, 18:52.81.

Roush suffered a preseason injury, and Columbia City Head Coach Bob Fahl said she’s been improving with every meet.

“She was very strong, very focused, very controlled ... very good,” Fahl said.

Though Roush’s personal record is 18:14, she knocked three seconds off her season best, 18:55, and is continuing to improve.

“I felt really good,” Roush said.

Roush edged out 2012’s state runner-up in the 1,600-meter run, Abigail Hostetler, by four seconds.

“She’s got her work cut out for her next week,” Fahl said. “As long as she continues to train hard and keeps up the good work, she should go to the state finals.”
