Robert Allen Reed, 69, of Laketon formerly of South Whitley, died at 8:45 a.m. Monday, Nov. 1, 2010 at the Peabody Home, North Manchester where he had been a resident for the past seven weeks.
He was born July 30, 1941 in South Whitley a son of Donel Frederick and Annabella (Hartsough) Reed. His formative years were spent in South Whitley where he attended elementary school and then graduated from South Whitley High School.
On Oct. 21, 1964 he entered the U.S. Marine Corp. He served in Vietnam.
On Oct. 21, 1967, he received his honorable discharge.
Self-employed for most of his work career, he owned and operated R & R Service of South Whitley and Sidney primarily providing welding services.
An avid Harley Davidson owner and rider, he was a member of HOG (Harley Owners Group), the Patriot Guard Riders, VFW Post 2919, South Whitley and DAV (Disabled American Veterans).
Surviving relatives include a daughter, Debra K. (Kris) Hand of North Manchester; two sons, David S. (Beth) Reed of North Manchester and Brent F. (Stacey) Reed of Claypool; nine grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and his mother, Frances Kimble of San Antonio, Texas.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry (Reed) Robinette.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Sidney Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Smith & Sons Miller Chapel, South Whitley.
Preferred memorials are to Salvation Army.
