Robert D. â€śBobâ€ť Martin, 89, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at 12:20 a.m. in Lutheran Hospital, Fort Wayne.
Born Dec. 27, 1924, he was the son of Charles and Ruth (Steffe) Martin.
A lifelong Kosciusko County resident, Bob was a 1942 graduate of Atwood High School, Atwood.
He served with the U.S. Army in World War II. On Aug. 20, 1948, he and Patricia Harris were joined in marriage.
For 17 years he worked on the Kosciusko County Highway Department where he was a mechanic. He retired in 1990.
Bob was a member of the Whitley County Coon Hunters Association and the Mountain Cur Association. He also was a 4-H Shooter.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Michael (Carol) Martin of Columbia City; and James A. (Rebecca) Martin of Manassas, Va.; three daughters, Christine (Mark) Vandewalle of Pierceton; Janet Best of Warsaw; and Debra (Dallas) Morrison of Warsaw; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Miner of Atwood, and Catherine McGowen of Warsaw.
Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia Martin (July 13, 1996) and two sisters, Joy Martin and Joan Taylor.
Family and friends will gather for a time of sharing in support of each other Friday, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Titus Funeral Home, Warsaw.
A service celebrating the life of Robert D. Martin will take place Monday beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial will follow in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.
The family has asked the gifts in Bobâ€™s memory be given to Riley Hospital for Children, 705 Riley Hospital Dr., Indianapolis, IN 46202.
