Richard Bowyer

Richard W. Bowyer, 68, died at 6:20 a.m. Sunday, April 14, 2013, at Marion Veterans Administration Medical Center where he had been a patient since July 2011.
He was born Jan. 3, 1945, in Logansport, a son of the late A. Mac and Marliz (McKinney) Bowyer.
He spent his formative years in Cass County, and attended Wheatland Avenue Methodist Church, Logansport. He graduated from Washington Township School in 1963.
On June 12, 1963, he entered the U. S. Air Force. From 1964-67 he was stationed at Spangdahelm AFB, Germany. He received his honorable discharge from active duty April 11, 1967.
On June 7, 1970, he was united in marriage to Sherri L. Evans. They made their home in Rome City.
Following his discharge from the Air Force, he joined IBM as a repair technician and parts specialist. He worked at Greenfield, Ind. and Raleigh-Durham, N.C. He retired from IBM in 1990. They then moved to rural Columbia City.
His memberships included Paralyzed Veterans of America, National Rifle Association, Paralysis Society of America, American Legion, Elks Lodge, AARP and National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Sherri; a daughter, Michelle (Patrick) Duggan of Fishers; a granddaughter, Marlee Duggan; a brother, Douglas (Judy Koons) Bowyer of Logansport and a sister, Benita (Richard) Basham of Culver.
A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Mount Hope Cemetery, Logansport, with Rev. Larry Schmoekel officiating. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Smith and Sons Funeral Home, Columbia City.
Preferred memorials can be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
